New Delhi, September 8, 2005: Bharti Tele-Ventures Limited (BTVL) and IBM India today announced the launch of Managed Services under their Joint Go-To-Market program that both the companies signed a year ago. The initial offering portfolio will include Managed Hosting Services & Business Resiliency and Continuity Services to enterprise customers in India. The agreement between Bharti and IBM is a first-of-its-kind, where a telecommunications leader and a leading Information Technology company have come together to address the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) market in India. They will jointly deliver end-to-end managed services, including connectivity, at client locations around the country.
The Joint-Go-To-Market initiative will enable clients to achieve continuous access to their enterprise information and critical business processes without having to increase/add infrastructure requirements. While Bharti will provide the telecommunications infrastructure and lead the sales engagements, IBM Global Services will provide the IT infrastructure and technology management services to clients.
Managed hosting and business resiliency & continuity services are targeted primarily at the Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI), Manufacturing and the government segments, which constitute a significant part of the Indian ICT services market. Under managed hosting services, the alliance will not only host and manage the data & application for enterprises but also provide them with end-to-end connectivity for the same. Companies will also be able to safeguard themselves against any unforeseen disasters by getting back up of critical business data and applications through the business resiliency and continuity services. Both the offerings would enable companies to conduct what is termed business@ease by not only entrusting their entire ICT requirements to Bharti and IBM and focus on areas of their core competence but also benefit from the convenience of working with a single point of contact for managed services and connectivity.
Announcing the agreement, Mr. Badri Agarwal, President, Infotel Business group, Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, said, "The Bharti-IBM alliance will redefine the existing paradigms of services in the Indian ICT industry and add unparalleled value to the offerings of both the companies. The agreement, a continuation of our business transformation pact signed last year, will bring together two of the leaders in the Indian telecom and IT industries, to provide world-class solutions and services which build upon the inherent strengths of both the companies. We are confident that our partnership will go a long way in developing and maturing the Indian market, by providing an integrated player approach, a first for the industry."
Mr. Shanker Annaswamy, Managing Director, IBM Global Services India Pvt. Ltd said, "IBM brings together its industry expertise, partner relationships, and a wide range of consulting, technology and services solutions to offer business value to clients. This joint go-to-market agreement with Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd will bring further value to our clients and help them on their journey to become on demand businesses by providing a range of services that are scalable, flexible and responsive."
Managed Hosting And Business Resiliency & Continuity Services:
Bharti and IBM are offering to take over complete responsibility for hosting, running and managing the applications of companies under the Managed Hosting services. Through the Business Resiliency & Continuity services they will provide clients with continuous disaster resiliency operations thereby enabling them to focus their resources on core and strategic areas of their businesses. In addition, they will benefit from access to highly available IT systems and network connectivity, and a deep pool of skilled staff from Bharti and IBM who are continually trained and updated on the latest technology. Thus, now clients will get integrated IT & telecom services all under one platform and will hence be able to conduct their business@ease.
Under the agreement, IBM will make available to clients, IBM India's Level III+ state-of-the-art Command Center Services (including remote monitoring of servers, security operations and network operations), Data Center Services (including server hosting, server management and storage management) and IT Help Desk Services. Clients can scale their usage of the services and computing power via an on demand model. This provides flexibility to respond quickly to business opportunities or changing conditions in the marketplace. Bharti will provide end-to-end connectivity and cater to all their telecom and communication requirements of clients. The marketing of the integrated solutions and services will be front-ended by Bharti.
Joint Go-To-Market Program
Bharti and IBM will pursue Joint Go-To-Market opportunities and avenues for selling value-based services in the areas of communications, IT services and convergence. Under the agreement, both the companies will build upon each others resources for a complementary partnership which will bring together Bharti's leading-edge network and integrated communications service-provider capabilities with IBM's unparalleled innovation and technology leadership. The program would enable them to capitalize on market opportunities as a fully integrated service provider thereby providing economies of scale and better resource utilization. The Joint Go-To-Market initiative would thus provide the benefits of seamless communication and computing to corporate and enterprise customers, such as e-business hosting services and business continuity and recovery services. The initiative will also introduce application services to the small business and mass-market segments including online content and managed e-mails. The collaboration is backed by resource investments from both parties.
