New Delhi, September 2, 2005: Airtel Broadband & Telephone Services, India’s largest broadband service provider and the country’s largest private telephone service from Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd today crossed the one million-customer landmark. Bharti is the first and only private company to have made serious investments in building fixed line telecom networks in the country. The milestone is a testimony to its world-class infrastructure & service deliveries with a strong focus on quality. Airtel currently provides its broadband & telephone services in 66 cities spread in 14 circles. To celebrate the achievement, the company also announced the launch of Airtel Live – a multi access entertainment portal with the most comprehensive content in the spheres of music, sports, astrology, jokes, ringtones etc. Airtel has always taken the lead in introducing innovative value added services on fixed line phones, some of these being Hello Tunes, Voice Mail Service, Directory Assistance etc. Airtel also announced its plans to expand its services to 14 more towns in 10 circles with an investment of more than Rs. 700 crores by the end of the current fiscal. This will take Bharti’s cumulative investment in the broadband & telephone service segment to Rs. 3,500 crores.
Bharti also outlined its strategy for the segment, which includes the proposition to offer a complete range of last mile access solutions and customized broadband solutions at low entry costs for its residential and business users. Airtel is the pioneer in introducing broadband services for fixed line customers by providing ADSL and is today the country’s largest broadband service provider with more than 1,70,000 customers. With a continued focus on service delivery through schemes like the ‘Service Guarantee’ offer and through its six-sigma processes, Airtel is committed to further enhance the user experience.

Another first – Launches Airtel Live, a multi access entertainment destination on your telephone
Airtel Live is an entertainment portal, the first ever by a fixed line service provider, which will offer a variety of content in the arena of music, sports, astrology, jokes, ringtones etc. Content on Airtel Live can be accessed by dialing 4646. Services on Airtel Live include:
(a) Ringtones – Download a wide range of songs or music clips as ringtones
(b) Dial-a-Song – Listen to and dedicate songs to friends and family
(c) News – Latest news including general and business news
(d) Astrology services
Airtel is already providing a range of value added services like Voice Mail Service, Directory Assistance, Call Completion Busy Subscriber, Delayed Hotline, Centrex and the like. The recently launched caller ring back tone service ‘Hello Tunes’ has already witnessed 2 lakh downloads.
Airtel – Roadmap for the next million

Airtel is launching its services in the sub city of Dwarka in Delhi from today. In the first week of September ’05, the services will be launched in 6 sectors of Dwarka. By October ‘05 Airtel will cover entire Dwarka sub city. Customers in Dwarka will now be able to experience world-class broadband & telephone services on a state-of-the-art telecom network backed by OFC ring architecture. This coupled with Airtel’s state-of-the-art customer care services would redefine the service experience of customers in the area.
In addition, Airtel will be expanding its services to 14 towns of the country adding to the existing 66 towns in 10 circles. The new towns include Chandigarh, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Cochin, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Pune, Agra, Meerut, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Jalandhar. With this rollout, Bharti will achieve a pan India footprint.
Technology from world leaders
The company has partnered with telecom majors like Siemens, ECI, Lucent and Duraline for its network. While Siemens has provided the digital switching system (Siemens EWSD) with CCS-7, a signaling protocol for faster connectivity, the billing software (Keenan Arbor) has been sourced from Lucent. The Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) equipment is sourced from ECI.
