Every broadcast channel offers only a limited bandwidth for transport of information. For digital transmission channels a maximum allowed bit rate is defined. This maximum bit rate depends on the chosen modulation principle and the available frequency bandwidth.

For optimized use of broadcast channel it is necessary to reduce the amount of data that is necessary to transport specific information. Higher compression allows us to transport more information within a given bit rate.

Compression techniques exploit the fact that our brains can fill in missing information and our eyes maintain information for a short time. Analog television pictures contain a great deal of redundant information which the human eye cannot perceive. We don´t need to see the whole picture and using MPEG compression we don´t send it. Audio too is compressed – mainly removing the highest and lowest frequencies that our ears are not sensitive to.

DTH bit rates are comparatively low, enabling MPEG4 to achieve its greatest efficiency and advantage over MPEG2.
What´s more, DTH applications do not normally worry about encoder/decoder latency. This is critically important for encoder performance.

In fact, MPEG4 is so good for DTH that virtually all DTH providers are turning to it for new direct to home HD services. Most are coupling the encoding benefits with the efficiency savings offered by DVB-S2 modulation and providing consistence picture quality in worst weather conditions also. However Airtel digital TV remains one of the only service providers in India to operate on MPEG4 DVB-S2.

So now with the MPEG4 DVB-S2 technology and its high quality video, picture clarity and quality sound you are guaranteed an incredible experience only on
