Airtel Big Break, is a first of its kind program in the telecom industry. It is an attempt to reach out to passionate people across India. It is a unique initiative, which focuses on hiring and developing local talent for our frontline roles. In the very first year, we have reached almost 100 campuses across the country and 650 students have been selected to script the future of Airtel.

Airtel’s operations are spread across all states in India and a very big part of our operations is our ‘Go To Market’, ‘Retail’ & ‘Customer Experience’ strategy. The talent market in India is huge but also requires to be readied in terms of skills for on job success. It is our quest for quality talent that led to the birth of ‘Airtel Big Break’.

At Airtel we have three critical jobs for which we want to hire quality talent typically with 2-3 year of work experience:

• Territory sales manager – Our frontline soldiers in the market, they are responsible for increasing our reach and business.
• Store Manager– Responsible for delivering the best in class experience that one experiences at the Airtel stores and managing its overall operations.
• Customer Service/ Relationship Manager- They are responsible for managing the end-to- end customer life cycle and fulfilling the service needs of our valued customers.

In these jobs we have consistently observed lack of availability of skilled talent in the market and we are now committed to grow talent in-house for these jobs. We have decided to hire fresh, bright talent from B-Schools across India and impart rigorous training. These students are set go through a structured learning experience with a mix of mentorship programs, classroom sessions and shadowing stints, aimed at not only enabling performance but also helping them build a long and fruitful career with Airtel.

We have had many success stories who have risen from frontline roles to leadership positions in Airtel. Tarun Singh is one such example who has worked his way up in Airtel as a Territory Sales Manager- Bikaner in 2008 managing a business of 1 crore initially to be the Zonal Business Manager for Central Bihar and managing a business of 24 crores. His thoughts on Airtel Big Break are:

A very warm welcome to all the big breakers! At Airtel, you will find opportunities at every step; across geographies and businesses. It is a place where discipline and hard work is recognized and you will have the liberty to experiment. Airtel’s talent philosophy is doing ‘jobs never done before’. In the last eleven years that I have spent at Airtel, I have experienced a freshness and dynamism that is unique to the organisation.

The very same thoughts are echoed by Sindhuri and Sandeep who are from the first batch of big breakers to join us at the Andhra Pradesh circle. One thing that is common to all these experiences is the warmth and support received by peers and superiors alike.

At Airtel, we are constantly looking for people who can help us deliver solutions that truly 'enrich the lives of our customers'. People who believe in making things happen; people who are fearless and enthralled by challenges; people who do not shy away from pushing boundaries and do ‘jobs never done before’. We welcome the first batch of 160 big breakers who have joined us recently and wish them a great career ahead!
