My journey with Airtel began in 2006 as a young leader (YL). Post my MBA from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Mumbai, I got an opportunity to be a part of the Airtel family through the Young Leader program.
Airtel’s reputation and my fondness for the brand were compelling reasons for my decision to join.
Initially, I started with various cross-functional stints across Sales and Marketing, learning the ropes of the business and then took over the role of VAS (Value added services) Product Manager in New Delhi. After 18 months, another assignment demanded my movement to Mumbai, in 2008. I took over the marketing role where I worked on new town roll-outs and then with the Usage & Retention team. Subsequently, I moved to Sales and managed Enterprise Sales for 2.5 years. After having such an extensive exposure in sales, I decided to chase my passion in Marketing. I took the opportunity to manage the VAS and International Roaming portfolio for Mumbai circle. I was then deputed as Business Head for franchise retail (Airtel Express) where I helped revamp the retail business. Currently I am serving as the Zonal Business Manager (ZBM) for Mumbai.
Jobs never done before :
As one of few female ZBMs in the country, I can state that managing a male dominated trade and team has its own set of challenges. But by having confidence in oneself and the right attitude, one can convert these challenges into great career opportunities and experiences that help you grow as an individual. I would go ahead and say that women should seek out such roles and take the opportunity to elevate themselves into better leaders.
I can unflinchingly say that Airtel offers a great platform to chase your aspirations and encourages you to grow professionally. It is a performance led culture and if you have the potential, Airtel offers the best platform to identify and unleash it.
Airtel’s DNA is to be passionate about what we do, work hard and celebrate our success. I’ve made some great friends across the organisation and that’s a testimony to the open work culture that each of us values greatly.
