What is NETC FASTag

FASTag is an easy to use, reloadable tag which enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets you pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction. The tag employs Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is affixed to the vehicle's windscreen after the tag account is activated.

This program is part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) initiative, rolled out by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under the guidelines of the National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) & and Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL). FASTag is a perfect solution for a hassle-free trip on national highways. It is presently operational at over 1000 toll plazas across national and state highways making toll transactions extremely seamless. What is FASTag?

What are the benefits of using FASTag?

The biggest benefit of using FASTag is that it saves both time and fuel. When the vehicle approaches the toll plaza, the tag is electronically read, and the toll amount is automatically deducted from your FASTag account. Thus, saving you both time and fuel spent while waiting in queues.

Where can you use FASTag?

What are the documents needed to apply for FASTag?

To apply for an Airtel FASTag, you need to have an active Airtel Payments Bank Savings Account or Wallet. Then all you need to do is submit the following details the front and back of your Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle and the Vehicle Registration number.

What are the charges for FASTag?

FASTag has a one-time enrolment/registration fee of ₹100 including GST. However, the refundable security deposit charged will depend on the type of your vehicle. Please check the Fees and Charges section for details.

I have two vehicles, can I use one FASTag for two vehicles?

No, you will need to purchase two separate FASTags for each vehicle by submitting a scanned copy of your RC book and your Vehicle's registration number.

Do I need to use any specific lane at the toll plaza for FASTag?

Yes, you will have to use the lanes demarcated for FASTag users while crossing a toll plaza.

How would I know that the correct user fee has been deducted from my FASTag account?

After every transaction at a toll plaza, you will receive an SMS alert on your registered mobile number indicating the amount deducted. You can also check your FASTag transaction history to ensure that the correct amount has been deducted from your account. In case of any queries, feel free to reach out to our customer care executives.

How would I report an incorrect deduction and how will I get back the same?

You can report incorrect deduction to the Customer Care Helpline number mentioned on the FASTag. The FASTag team will investigate the matter and if found correct, they will reverse the incorrect deduction to your account.

How would I pay if the ETC equipment at Toll plaza is not working?

In case the ETC equipment is not working in spite of having sufficient balance in the FASTag, you will have no other option but to pay in cash at the toll plaza. Additionally, we'd request you to call customer care and report the issue to the concessionaire so that it can be resolved at the earliest.

I have FASTag and also balance amount, but I could not go through the ETC lane. How do I get my FASTag checked whether the balance is deducted or not?

You can raise a request regarding the same by calling our dedicated customer care team and they will help you out with your issue.

How do we know whether my FASTag is active or not?

You can raise a request regarding the same by calling our customer care number at 400. You can also check the activation status of your FASTag on the Airtel Thanks app.

Can I avail a monthly pass?

Yes. If you are a frequent traveller of a particular route, you can get a monthly pass from the NHAI portal and save more.

How to recharge FASTag account?

To do an online FASTag recharge you simply have to load money into your linked Airtel Payments Bank account/wallet using internet banking/ credit card/ debit card pr UPI via the Airtel Thanks app. Post successful loading, a minimum balance amount will be blocked for FASTag and then be used when you cross a poll.

Are there any other charges applicable like convenience fees etc.?

There may be additional charges associated with recharging the FASTag account through different FASTag portals. Please check the Fees and Charges section to know more.

What do I have to do if I have lost/ damaged my RFID Tag? What will happen to the account balance?

Please call our Customer Care at 400 or 8800688006 for replacement of your FASTag. The new tag issued to you will be linked to your old tag account and the relevant balance amount will be transferred to the new tag. So that way you won’t lose out on any money.

How do I close/block my FASTag?

You can call up our customer care number on 400 or 8800688006 and mention your mobile number against which the tag has been registered along with the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) or Tag ID. Our Customer Support agent will get in touch with you to confirm the process for the closure of FASTag. You would have to then share the destroyed image of FASTag or other relevant documents at wecare@airtelbank.com. Our team would verify the details and closure would be done within 48 working hours. Please note, that accounts cannot be closed for pending recovery or inactive account cases. So clear all your dues before deciding to close your account.

Can FASTag be used for passage through toll plazas on the state highways?

FASTag can be used on all toll plazas including state and national highways. You can check the list of Plazas in the Active Toll Plazas section.

I reside within 10 km of a particular toll plaza. Do I need to take FASTag to get the concessions available for local vehicles?

Yes, you will have to submit your documents to the concessionaire of your Toll validating your residence within 10km of that particular plaza. Once it is verified, you may benefit from the concession on the FASTag assigned to your vehicle.

In case of harassment/ misconduct/ discourteous/ rude behaviour of toll collection staff, what should we do?

In case of such a dreadful scenario, a complaint is to be lodged with the respective Project Directors immediately at the particular toll plaza.

Is the FASTag balance separate from my linked account?

FASTag balance although not the same, will still be part of your linked account/wallet balance. The minimum FASTag balance amount will be blocked in your linked account for FASTag. For example, if your Airtel Payments Bank account or Airtel wallet has ₹2000 in it, ₹150 will be kept aside as a FASTag minimum balance.

From which account, my balance will be deducted for FASTag transactions?

The toll amount will be deducted from your linked Airtel Payments Bank account/wallet. In case your Account/wallet balance is less than the toll payment amount, money will be debited from your blocked FASTag minimum balance amount. Thus, ensuring a smooth and seamless process at the Toll Plaza.

When will my tag be blacklisted?

In case your balance is less than the FASTag minimum balance amount for quite some time, there’s a high chance that your tag will be blacklisted by the NPCI. Hence, you need to maintain a minimum balance amount in order to keep your tag active.

How to Check FASTag Balance?

Since your FASTag is directly linked to your Airtel Payments Bank account/wallet, your available balance in your wallet/Savings account is your FASTag balance. So, you don’t have to worry about how to check FASTag balance online anymore.

There are two ways to check your balance:

  • Check your balance through the Airtel Payments Bank webpage or Airtel Thanks app
    • Login to the Airtel Payments Bank account.
    • On the home screen, you would be able to view your available balance.
  • Check your balance through Missed Call Functionality

What do I do if I lose my Tag or my Vehicle is stolen? How do I replace my FASTag? What will happen to the account balance?

Just follow the simple steps below to deal with such a situation:

  • Immediately call on customer care at 400 or 8800688006 to deactivate your FASTag.
  • Once your tag is deactivated, the Security amount and Min-balance would be reversed to your wallet/account.
  • You can then place an order for a replacement tag, via the Airtel Thanks app, the Airtel Payments Bank website or via any of the point of sale locations. Your new tag will then be delivered in 10 working days.
How do I upgrade my wallet?

You can upgrade your wallet by reaching out to their nearest banking point for conversion of wallet to SBA. The banking agent will then ask for Aadhar details and Pan details for updating your wallet. Using biometric authentication, you can then upgrade your wallet within 10min. How do I set Auto Recharge for FASTag?

  • If you are a savings bank account holder with any other bank, you can set standing instructions with them if they provide the service.
  • Go to your other bank's internet banking portal.
  • Select the standing instruction (SI) option.
  • Enter the amount you want to add to your NETC FASTag linked account and the frequency to add.
  • Use IFSC as AIRP0000001 and Branch name as Airtel Payments Branch.
  • Enter your Airtel Payments Bank account number and set the SI.
When should I update the Vehicle Number and How do I update my Vehicle Number?

If you have purchased FASTag from a new vehicle dealer, your tag would have been registered using Chassis Number/VIN Number. It is mandatory for you to update the Vehicle Registration Number within 90 days for tags to remain active. To update the vehicle number, you can reach out to your vehicle dealer and share your RC image copy. The dealer would be able to update the Vehicle Number through Airtel Payments Bank Portal. You would receive an SMS once the vehicle Number is updated. Additionally, you can reach out to Airtel payments bank customer service for support with respect to vehicle number updates. Your vehicle number should be updated within 48 hrs of sharing the updated RC copies.
