Tips and Tricks on How to Replace or Change Your Sim Card

The SIM card is as essential as the smartphone in our hands. Frankly, without the SIM card, it can be said the smartphone is of no use. You will not be able to access mobile phone calls, send SMS messages, use mobile data and more. Therefore, it is necessary that you know the steps on how to replace or change SIM card. After all, it is an essential process, and you might have to do it when you get a new SIM card.

Here is our blog that will guide you through the steps. But, before we go there, let us first have a look at the different types of SIM cards that you can get in the market.

The Various Sizes of a SIM card

Well, all our smartphones need SIM cards, that is no big secret. However, not all SIM cards are of the same shape or size. Here’s looking at some of them:

The Standard SIM card

The Standard SIM card is the oldest and the most traditional form of the SIM card. In addition, when compared to the rest of the SIMs, this is the largest as well. This card measures 25×15 mm in size.

The Micro SIM card

Up next, is the micro SIM card. Notably smaller than the standard SIM card, it is important to note that it is not the smallest one in the line-up, yet. It was specifically designed to be used in smartphones, and has the dimensions: 12×15 mm. As time has passed, so has the usage of the micro SIM reduced. ‘Why?’ you may ask. The reason behind that is that it has a better counterpart now.

The Nano SIM card

The Nano SIM is the smallest one in the line-up of SIM cards. The biggest advantage to it is its tiny size, which is only 12.3×8.8 mm. They are quite commonly used in smartphones, because they save up a lot of space for the rest of the components of your device. In addition, the nano SIM card is incredibly lightweight too, which gives it yet another feather in its cap.

The eSIM card

One of the latest innovations in the world of SIM cards, the eSIM is steadily gaining popularity. It is a piece of software which takes up the place of your SIM card. Right, fantastic as it may sound, it actually works. You do not have to depend upon a physical SIM card anymore. Your new eSIM can be just downloaded from the internet. We think it is quite an interesting take on the rather conventional SIM cards. If your smartphone does support an eSIM, then you should really try it out.

Now that we have covered the various types of SIM cards, let us have a closer look at the SIM trays.

What is the SIM tray?

The SIM tray is nothing but a small holder of your SIM card, inside the smartphone. It is a piece of hardware for your device, that makes it easier for you to change SIM card or replace SIM card. Now, SIM trays can be of different types as well. The type of SIM tray that you get with your smartphone depends upon the smartphone that you have purchased.

For example, there are smartphones that offer you SIM trays with three different slots: 2 for your nano sim and one for a micro SD card. On the other hand, there are smartphones that only have 2 slots. It allows you to push in a single nano SIM card, and a nano SIM card or an SD card.

How to change SIM on my smartphone

There are a wide variety of smartphones available in the market. Therefore, the SIM card replacement process can also differ from one device to another. Regardless of whichever device you own, we have got you covered. Following are the ways to change your SIM or get a SIM replacement for your smartphone:

Change SIM card found at the back of the phone

  1. Firstly, make sure you switch your phone off before you proceed with the entire process.
  2. Next, use your fingers to remove the back panel of your smartphone.
  3. Once the back panel has been removed, you will be able to see the insides of your smartphone. Look for the SIM card here.
  4. If you find the SIM card, then go ahead and change your SIM card. Make sure that the SIM card is aligned in the exact way it is supposed to. There will also be a small marking which instructs you on how to do so.
  5. In case you do not find it straight away, your SIM card is probably located under the battery. Remove the battery and you will be able to locate the SIM card. Here, proceed with step 4, and your SIM will be replaced.

Change SIM card found at the side of the smartphone

This process is for the smartphones that do not have a removable back panel. To go ahead with the SIM card replacement, look for a small panel with a hole at one of the sides of the device. Now, here is how you have to go ahead:

  1. For starters, you have to switch off the device.
  2. In the next step, you have to ensure that you find your smartphone’s SIM card removal tool. It will be shaped like a tiny pin.
  3. Once you have located the pin, make sure that you are able to use it to open the SIM tray of your device.
  4. Open the SIM tray and go ahead with the SIM card replacement. You will be able to see numbered markings here, which denote whether you want your SIM to be primary or secondary. Choose the SIM slot accordingly and go ahead.

Thus, if you follow all these steps carefully, your SIM card change will go ahead with zero hiccups. However, if you feel that you need even more guidance, you can always visit a mobile store to get guidance to replace SIM card.
